Decatur Plant Attends the Lawrence County High School Career Expo
Members of Toray Decatur plant’s team attended a career expo for high school students in Lawrence County, Alabama. The Lawrence County School System consisting of Lawrence County High School, Hatton High School, and East Lawrence High School welcomed area businesses to interact with students and advertise career opportunities after high school. The Tennessee River Valley is home to a variety of businesses and manufacturers giving graduating students career opportunities regardless of career interest. Team members described the carbon fiber composites business and its various use cases and value chains in commercial aerospace and sporting goods.
Students learned about the various roles at the Decatur site including general affairs, accounting, maintenance, operations, quality assurance, and engineering. Maintaining an active relationship with area schools is a great way for CMA to remain connected to a talented pool of potential employees. Decatur team members also brought fishing rods and baseball bats to showcase the products used every day in which carbon fiber is used. A demonstration was used to show the weight savings advantage of carbon fiber composites over steel and its role in the commercial aerospace value chain. Students learned how carbon fiber composites have played an important role in the Boeing 787 and 777X program.
