Press Mold Curing For Prepreg
Press mold curing for prepreg is a type of out-of-autoclave processing specialized for small, net-shape parts in a high-rate environment, where a prepreg form in a multi-part mold is compressed at high pressure between heated plates. Press mold curing is commonly used for applications where the high throughput allowed by rapid curing and minimal machining is critical, particularly in the automotive, industrial, and UAM markets.
Most Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. materials can be effectively cured via press mold curing, but some materials – including certain G-series resins – have been specially formulated to allow for snap-curing and take advantage of the rapid cycle time of a hot-in-hot-out press curing setup.
