COVID-19 On-Site Vaccine Clinic and Blood Drive
Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. (CMA) and Toray Fluorofibers (America), Inc. (TFA), both of which are located in Decatur, Alabama, partnered with local Decatur Morgan Hospital and hosted a COVID-19 on-site vaccine clinic.
All CMA and TFA employees are categorized as “1B (frontline essential workers) Manufacturing Workers,” which are the second highest category within the Alabama COVID‐19 Vaccination Allocation Plan. However, due to high demand it has been difficult to make a local appointment. Toray COVID-19 on-site vaccine clinic was offered for all employees and spouses who wished to get vaccinated. Over 90 people received the Pfizer vaccine. The first dose was distributed on March 22 and 24, 2021 and second doses were distributed on April 19 and 22.
CMA’s Tacoma Plant in Tacoma, Washington also offered an on-site vaccine clinic to all employees and their families. The first dosage was distributed on May 11 with the second dosage date to be confirmed.
Also, during this time CMA’s Decatur Plant hosted a blood drive on April 6 and 7. Typically, the Decatur Plant frequently hosts blood drives, however, due to current events this has been the first held in over a year. We partnered with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, a non-profit community blood bank, followed all current CDC (Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention) protocols and all donors were required to sign up before contributing. Over 30 employees donated blood.
On average, each donation saves three lives, which means CMA saved over 90 local patients’ lives! We appreciate all the employees who donated. Everyone who donated blood will be tested for COVID antibodies.
