Critical Needs Blood Drive at Toray CMA Decatur Plant
Lifesouth would like to thank our Decatur employees for participating in the blood drive in July. Blood supply for North Alabama hospitals is very low this time of year.
Blood goes out much faster than it comes in with holidays and summertime activities. 15 units were donated each day of our two day blood drive with a total of 30 units that were already being used in hospitals the very next day. Up to 90 patient’s lives were saved thanks to the donors from our drive at Toray CMA Decatur.
Someone needs blood every two seconds. Healthy adults who are at least 17 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate about a pint of blood every 56 days, or every two months. Females receive 53 percent of blood transfusions; males receive 47 percent. Only 37 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood – less than 10 percent do annually. Blood drives hosted by companies, schools, places of worship and civic organizations supply roughly half of all blood donations across the U.S.
LifeSouth is a community blood center. That means the blood supply collected from our donors directly serves the needs of patients in our local community. As a blood donor, you are a vital part of a team of individuals working together to save the lives of patients in our area’s hospitals.
