SAMPE Award Ceremony

On September 23rd, SAMPE Global Awards took place at Anaheim Marriott Hotel in Anaheim, California, U.S.A. During this event, Toray Industries, Inc. received the Akio Shindo Memorial Award. It is a new award in honor of Akio Shindo, who is well known as the inventor of PAN based carbon fiber. This award provides recognition to individuals and groups that have meritoriously fostered the advancement of carbon fiber, carbon fiber reinforced composite materials, and their technologies, and/or enhanced the attainment of the objectives of the carbon materials fields. Dr. Akihiko Kitano, on behalf of Toray Industries, Inc., took the stage and received the trophy. During his speech, he expressed gratitude to the SAMPE Conference Committee and anyone involved. He also expressed our determination for the company slogan “Materials can change our life.” In addition, Mr. Nobuyuki Odagiri was nominated unanimously for this year’s SAMPE Fellow Award by the committee. He made a speech on the stage after receiving the certificate and the award, and a round of applause followed.
