Toray Group to Exhibit Applications of Advanced Composite Materials at SAMPE Conference and Exhibition in Long Beach
The Toray Group, a global leader in innovative technologies and advancements in high-performance composite materials, is pleased to announce it is exhibiting at SAMPE 2024 from May 21st – 22nd in Long Beach, California.
At booth C10, Toray will highlight the applications of its TORAYCA™ carbon fiber, thermoset prepreg materials, Toray Cetex® and CFRT® thermoplastic composite materials used in the aerospace and defense, automotive, sports and recreation, and industrial markets.
The annual event provides a community for industry champions to learn about breakthrough materials and technology developments within the composites industry. Toray invites visitors to the booth to connect with technology experts on composite material solutions for weight reduction, decreased fuel consumption, and improved strength, safety, and comfort in various industries.
Booth samples to be displayed include a Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV), which was manufactured with next-gen TORAYCA™ T1100 carbon fiber to produce the lightest possible vessel with the ability to withstand the highest pressure; A thermoplastic bike rim made with Toray Cetex® thermoplastic to absorb impacts through microscopic flexing and radial dissipation in extreme environments, and a medical knee brace component made of CFRT® TL-6000, the strongest, stiffest composite sheet material offered in the orthopedic field.
Additional featured booth demos include:
- Toray 2700 toughened prepreg system, specifically formulated for heat resistance and low water absorption. The material exhibits excellent structural properties, press cures in under five minutes, and is compatible with multiple applications, including AFP/ATL, OOA/VBO, autoclave, hand layup, and press molding.
- Cetex® TC915 PA+™ is a new strengthened polyamide thermoplastic material for high-performance applications with exceptional mechanical properties higher than typical polyamide-based composites and Nylon materials. This new thermoplastic material is excellent for sporting goods, high-performance industrial applications, automotive structures, energy (oil/gas, hydrogen), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) applications.
- CFRT® TL-6000 is a continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic laminate. This product is available in multiple constructions from 2-Layers up to 7-Layers; all ultra-thin, lightweight, and resilient. This material can be drilled, ground, polished, and heat adjusted. TL-6000 has a smooth, high-gloss finish and is used widely in the Orthopedic market.
In addition to the exhibition, Toray team leaders will speak on two technical topics within the conference. Terry Hines will present on Wednesday, May 22, at 8 am PT. Mr. Hines will discuss Vacuum-Bag-Only (VBO) Consolidation of Toray Cetex® TC1225/ TORAYCA™ T1100G Thermoplastic Composite Laminates Prepared Via Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) at Varied Nip Temperatures.
In a separate session, Chantel Camardese will examine Polyimide Glass and Quartz Fabric Prepreg Development for Optimized Low Dielectric Structures on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 am PT in room 102C. Mrs. Camardese will explore Toray’s selection of polyimide prepreg systems and consider the advancements required for further development to meet demanding high-temperature application needs in a quickly evolving world.
